Reflect on the past & impact the future

Our inaugural Classical Thought and Political Thought summer retreats are based at Blundell’s School for summer 2026. Students from all backgrounds, aged 16-19 are welcome. Each retreat is two weeks long and is centred on daily seminars led by subject experts. Throughout each retreat, we will also host expert guest speakers and considerable time is built into each programme for individual and small-group reflection. These retreats are perfect for any young person aged 16-19 who is considering studying a humanities subject at university. We will be covering many of the most foundational texts, ideas and concepts that form the core of many degrees in classics, history, politics, literature, philosophy, art, sociology, social sciences and many more.
In summer 2026, our Classical Thought retreat runs on weekdays from 27th July to 7th August. Our Political Thought retreat runs from 10th August to 21st August on weekdays. Students can choose to attend one or both of our retreats. Students who attend both retreats receive a substantial discount. Each day runs from 9am – 4pm (with some flexibility), but students can arrive from 8am. Once you have booked your place, you will receive more details about the structure and content of your retreat.

Retreat Venue
The beautiful campus of Blundell’s School covers 100 acres on the outskirts of the small market town of Tiverton, in mid-Devon.
The school was founded on a site next to the River Lowman in the early-1600s by wealthy wool merchant Peter Blundell. It has produced famous authors, clergymen and Nobel Prize winners. The school moved to its current site in the late-1800s.
On our summer retreats, we will have access to excellent classroom facilities and the beautiful expanses of the grounds at Blundell’s. Students will also have ample time to explore the nearby town, with its many shops and eateries.
